This course is designed for second-year architecture students at EPAU, who need to acquire a solid foundation in spatial representation and analysis. Cartography, as both a science and a language, provides essential tools for understanding and communicating the complexity of space, landscapes, and territories. The objectives of the module are to introduce the fundamentals of maps and plans, to explore key concepts such as scale, projections, symbols, and GIS, and to develop practical skills in map reading and interpretation. The course also emphasizes the cartographic process, from data collection to graphic representation and map dissemination. Special attention will be given to the role of cartography in urban planning and architectural design. By the end of the module, students will be able to use maps not only as technical documents but also as instruments for analysis, communication, and decision-making in their projects.
